The talk at RubyConf that made the biggest impression on me was Alicia Rojas’, about making the transition from humans reviewing AI written code, to AI also being responsible for all code review (a “dark factory,” although she doesn’t use that term). She describes her job changing from writing software and maintaining its quality herself, to designing systems that do it. She talks through the transition her team made and the framework they developed and applied. It’s an excellent and substantial talk, not hype.

If you saw the video of my talk that I posted last week, I focused on “human in the loop” AI coding, which is what I’m doing every day, and it’s rapidly become the norm in software engineering. Alicia’s talk is about what the next level looks like. If you’re like me and haven’t made that transition yet, but see it as something that’s in your future, I highly recommend the talk.
